OPHELIA is a cosmopolite woman, a child of the Caribbean who speaks English, French, Creole, Dutch and Papiamento. In February of 1981 she received in Paris, in recognition of her great contribution to Caribbean music, the MARACAS D'OR or Golden Maracas award. This trophy was also received by Manu Dibangu and Miriam Makeba. OPHELIA is also the recipient of the Golden DRUM award, the Prominent women's award, the Inter-Caribbean Music Trophy. She was also a nominee for the Caribbean Music awards in New York in the category best female vocals.
OPHELIA's records have known great success but it is on stage that she excels. She sung on many occasions to crowds exceeding 10,000. Her stage presence, class and magnetism are such that she has established an easy relationship with audiences not only in the Caribbean but also as far afield as PARIS, LONDON and the French RIVIERA. The above headline neatly captures the credence given to Exile One via Gordon Henderson and by the people of the world for Exile One's presentation to the universe of a Caribbean-Antillean Beat-Cadence Lypso. About 1978, the group's Leader defined this musical form as a "Synthesis of black, primarily West Indian rhythmic patterns".
In the last decade Exile One has released several Stella Albums including "Fresh", "Twenty-Twenty","Boomerang" and the latest, "Creole Attitude". After decades on the music scene Exile One continues to prevail.
