Self-Guided Walking Tour

For a walking tour of the historic district of Roseau, Dominica's capital city, you can purchase a self-guided map-leaflet at The Fort Young Hotel for $4 USD or hire a guide for $15 USD.

Founded and named by French settlers in the early 1700s, the city we know today is based mainly on the grid layout planned and built by the British in 1768 though some remnants of the 'French quarter' still remain.

At times destroyed by fires, flood and hurricanes, there still remain many fine examples of Victorian architecture with a Creole flavour, and this short tour lets you experience this side of Roseau.

Historic Roseau Walking Tour

Led by an Architect, learn about the establishment and development of Dominica's capital city, the rationale behind the local building styles and some interesting facts along the way.

The tour delves into the development of the island through the capital city and its architecture. Significant structures as well as styles are identified, describing the culture and history of their time.
Self guided tour-maps are available for $4 USD. Guided tours are 1.5 hours, $15 USD pp starting at the Old Market.
Fort Young Tour
From the comfortable shelter of the impressive Fort Young Hotel, you will learn about the development of the island. Geography and architecture will help illustrate the stories of this site which witnessed Dominica's "tug-of-war" between the British and the French, through Independence and up to today. 1 hr, $20 USD pp including a juice.
