We did this hike on our honeymoon in 1995. Our tour guide would only take hikers there without a "test hike" the day before the Boilin' Hike if they were from Colorado. We passed the test hike and went the second day to Boiling Lake! We were in good shape but not compared to the much younger newly wed couple we were hiking with on the tour. It was a challenge and I almost stopped near the "summit" but my stubborn attitude won out! I made it and I'm so glad I did. My husband was very encouraging and now we have a great story to tell our boys ages 14 and 11. I'd love to bring them there someday. We are still hiking since we live near Tahoe!

The boiling lake was the most challenging hike i experienced for the 5 days i spent in dominica... My tour guide Naithan Rolle helped me maneuver in the difficult parts of the trail. Its amazing , An once you are able you should try also

Beautiful hike and very worthwhile, but don't believe the horror stories.
The hike is actually quite easy by tropical mountain standards and my seven year old girl made it 2 hours 31 minutes up and 2 hours 20 minutes down (plus an hour spent at the lake). The only "diffculty" is that there is one very short rock scramble and many log steps.
The lake and Valley of Desolation interesting and the hike itself is very beautiful. It's a good one.

Have done the hike three times, twice with a girlfriend and a third time when my husband joined U's. This is a fabulous, breathtaking hike. I plan to do it every trip to Dominica. Lambert Charles has always been our guide, and has become our close friend.

Visited the boiling lake twice. First time I swore that I would never do it again not for a million dollars. Then, 5 years later I took up the challenge. Awesome both times. The view at the Valley of Desolation was stunning. The thrill for me was not the final destination but the journey. Take lots of water and some energy bars or fruit with you as it is quite a strenuous trek.

We did this hike November 19 2010. My husband and I and our two children 13 & 11. We did it in 8 hrs in the pouring rain and Loved every minute of it! Yes, even when my legs were shaking.. :) it's an incredible hike, not to be done without a trustworthy guide!

I did the trek to the Boiling Lake in a party of 8 on 13 August 2009. I still have flashbacks and wiggle my toes when I see pictures and hear people talk about it. It has to be seen, it is so beautiful and breath-taking, I am glad I did it, but I won't go again for love or money!
